Oh Brother

Saturday, September 27th, 2008

My brother is an organic farmer here in the southwestern United States. He is part of a group of farmers who work through a fruit broker that helps the farmers sell their produce. One would think that working the earth and being kind of low key would be insulation against having problems with computers or any associated technology. Boy was I wrong. The fruit broker was a mere pawn in a line of other middlemen whose exchange server had major problems which affected the whole bunch. Exchange recovery people were called in and the problem was fixed. It did take a couple of days; however those two days were hard on everyone.

Small Business Owners – Who Will Benefit From Your Hard Work?

Friday, September 26th, 2008

I came home yesterday and my wife waived a letter in my face. “Look at this,” she exclaimed. “The Arnolds are retiring early.”

The insinuation was clear. We’re NOT retiring early, and the Arnolds are. Now, don’t get me wrong. I’m only 48 years old, and I’m not even close to being ready to retire. But I am ready to THINK about retirement, and as a small business owner, I still have a lot to do to prepare.

If you’re in the same boat as me, you know that small business retirement planning isn’t easy to do. There isn’t much information out there, and what is available is mostly useless.

I found a site called Finding Clear Direction (the link is above), and I’ve learned a lot about my options, especially about how to use the assets of my business to leverage a comfortable retirement for myself. It’s not that I don’t care about my employees… it’s just that I’m the one building the business. Shouldn’t I be the one to benefit?

The Good And Bad Of HMO Low Cost Medical Insurance

Friday, September 26th, 2008

Unlike traditional indemnity plans, HMO low cost medical insurance plans are very simple for plan holders when it comes to administration and all you need to do is to present your card at the time of treatment and everything else is taken care of for you. However, there is a price to be paid for this ease and in this case it comes in the form of restrictions on where and from whom you receive your treatment. In addition, you will also often find that you have to wait for treatment. The only way around this is to elect to go outside of the managed care network for treatment, in which case costs can rise sharply. HMO plans certainly have their good side but, like everything else in life, they also have their bad side and it is a question of balancing one against the other in choosing whether or not to buy an HMO plan.

Strategic Placing of Chandeliers

Friday, September 26th, 2008

In providing efforts to place chandelier lamps in the significant areas of your house makes for significant makeover in one click.  That one click can adorn elegance and class into your home.  That one click though is merely clicking the switch to the light bulb.  Or something like that.  When choosing for the apt chandeliers, try to give utmost importance to its light bulbs. Chandeliers have multiple bulbs and tend to shed a lot of light.  The amount of illumination that you will need for the dining room will be based upon this formula:  Length X Width X 1.5.  If a room is 12 X 15, then you will need roughly bulbs that produce a combined total of 270 watts.  A chandelier with 6-40 Watt bulbs will most likely provide adequate illumination, especially if complemented by wall sconces, buffet lamps, or other light fixtures.

Are Dance Schools Good For You?

Friday, September 26th, 2008

There are many people who’ll want to stay in shape as the new school year begins. There are many activities that you can learn and get into shape with that can be done in the free time you have available.

There are part time schools in subjects from knitting to Zoology. Not that I’m suggesting those subjects will get you fit! But what about something like dance schools where it’s all about the skill and the health benefits are a side effect?

Well dance schools provide both. The skill and educating you receive is quite expansive whilst the workout part takes care of itself. And it’s definitely a good workout! You won’t feel like you’re at school or like you’re exercising – you’ll feel like you’re having fun.

Mens cufflinks or unisex ones?

Friday, September 26th, 2008

With the many types of cufflinks in the market, one is definitely faced with a dilemma whether to buy distinctly mens cufflinks or show a little adventurous side and settle for designs that are a little feminine, such as those with floral designs or bright colors. Actually, there should be no problem buying both kinds – the typical men’s styles are great accessories for formal events while the more playful ones are excellent for occasions when departure from conservative dressing is called for. Office parties, dinner dates with co-workers or even cocktails are great opportunities to wear unusual cufflinks, as your friends will definitely want you on those occasions to be a little mirthful, rather than stiff.

User Friendly

Friday, September 26th, 2008

It took me awhile to get on the Google bandwagon but now that I have started using them I do have to say I use them for just about everything. I use them for everything from AdSense to the Google toolbar popup blocker. They are a great company because from what I have experienced they are user friendly. I came into the world of computers at a later date than the rest of the world, so it seemed. I thought I would never be able to get the hang of the technology but they have really made things so user friendly.

Meant To Do

Thursday, September 25th, 2008

I went through so many different ideas of what I thought I would like to do as my career in life. I wanted to be a photographer or an architect, when I was a kid. As I got older, I thought that I was more interested in the medical field. Then, I changed my mind and decided to follow my passion for yoga, to become an instructor. Although each of these things are still passions for me, I have now figured out that being a forensic science technician is what I am really meant to be. Those other things remain hobbies.

Training A Puppy To Learn Their Name

Thursday, September 25th, 2008

There is no real way of training a puppy to learn their name other than repitition of their name.  When speaking to your puppy directly, don’t call him/her other than what their name is.  When they do something good, praise them by saying ‘Good Rex’. But when they do something bad, don’t say their name at all.  It confuses them.  Sometimes an owner can use treats and previously learned commands as a way to teach them their name.  If they know sit, you can say ‘Sit Rex’ and give them a treat if successful.  But most of all, continuous repitition is the best way to get your puppy to learn their name.

Thursday, September 25th, 2008

You will find some experienced staff at leading bridal shops to do the wedding dress alterations. It is the easiest way to go to a bridal shop for your wedding dress alternation. Check the billing when you purchase to see if wedding dress alterations are included in the quoted price or not. Generally wedding dress alterations are done in a series of three fittings. In the first fitting you have to put on the dress with the matching shoes and undergarments, then pin up all the seams of your dresses to fit perfectly and lastly checks the hem whether they are of perfect length.
