Do these sound different?

I was recently in a store that sold various ethnic instruments from around the world, and I was amazed by the variety and beauty of these instruments. I went in the store looking to purchase a doumbek, but in the end I couldn’t decide which one I should get. Does the Egyptian doumbek sound very different from the Turkish doumbek? Which one is more popular? The first thing the owner asked was which type I wanted, and I couldn’t decide. After that it seems I still need to figure out what I want the instrument to be made of and what type of head I want, all of which I am assuming affect the sound of the instrument.
