Yes, it is quite corny, the expression, “Holy Toledo”. What exactly does the expression refer to? Well, I don’t quite know, except that it functions as an expression of surprise or disbelief. Surprise or disbelief in what? Did you know that Toledo is home to the Jeep manufacturing plant and has been for over 65 years? Well, according to the television news, jeep sales are down and layoffs are imminent for people who work at the Jeep plant in Toledo, Ohio. This means Toledo jobs are not safe for thousands of auto workers, many of whom have probably invested a lifetime into their job with Jeep. I bet those unlucky auto workers are using the age old expression quite frequently these days.
