How Can They Afford That?
We have friends who always seem to be taking trips, even though they make less money than we do, and for the longest time I wondered how they could afford to do that. I figured some of the costs must be being put on credit cards, because they certainly don’t spend a lot less than us on other things. But I couldn’t imagine them racking up so much debt like that. Then I heard that they had gotten their house payment lower through mortgage refinancing. The next time I started to wonder how they were affording their trip, I found out that they had done something that probably wasn’t too wise and took some of the money out of their retirement account – now they have been hit with a big tax bill! I don’t think they’ll do that again!
