New To Town

Sunday, May 13th, 2012

I was new to town when my cocker spaniel began shedding hair like crazy. I didn’t know what was wrong him. Back home in Georgia, I would have had him at the vet’s office in no time flat. They were even on my speed dial. But here, I had not hardly had time to unpack his water bowl, much less find a clinic. That’s when I happen to see an ad for Veterinary Clinic Mountlake Terrace and I immediately made an appointment.

Learning How to Use Dog Clippers

Monday, February 20th, 2012

Our dog needs to be trimmed often, but I cannot always afford to have it done. Sometimes it gets so bad that I have to take her to the groomers. This week though, I did not have the money to do it so I decided to try it out myself. I did not even know how to use dog clippers, but I learned how to. I went online to learn some stuff and I am glad that I did because I got her trimmed up nicely.

Best Dog Food Brands

Friday, January 20th, 2012

Many years of owning dogs has allowed me to sample many different dog food brands. I have tried the best of the best and the worst ones out there. Some of the lower grade brands are only glorified saw dust and fillers. When purchasing dog food you have to decide what fits the goal you are trying to obtain in feeding your dog and your budget. Some cheaper foods offer nutrients needed to maintain life for your dog, just read the ingredients when buying these foods. Do not be mislead however, some of the more expensive brands also offer little to no nutrition. Corn is almost always the base ingredient in dog food. Corn is alright, it makes a nice filler and dogs find it palateable. Corn can not maintain a full healthy life for your pet. You have to look for ingredients such as real meat, fruits and vegetables. My rule of thumb when choosing a dog food is, when poured in the bowl I ask myself, “if I were a dog, would I eat this?” If the answer is yes, I find it is alright to feed that brand to my dog. Get down and dirty with your dog food. Smells, textures, and appearance are biggies. Some foods look so appealing that you could almost place them in a kettle and enjoy them yourself. When choosing a dog food brand, be picky, after-all you must think about the well being of your favorite four legged friend.

How to choose the right bed for your dog

Tuesday, October 26th, 2010

There are so many different dog beds available online; I can be very difficult to decide which ones is the most suitable for your pet. The most important factor when choosing a bed by far is size. Getting something to large will not provide the insulation, support and protection it needs. Calculating size however is very simple, as a rule of thumb, take the measurement of your dog from the base of its neck to the end of its back, this is the rough length you are looking for. Make sure to allow for growing room if you’re catering to a puppy or young dog.
