Accuracy of Paternity Test

Accuracy of paternity test is a question that arises in one’s mind. Although the results are not 100% accurate but up to 99.9% accuracy of result can be expected. Two results are received with paternity test: exclusion and Inclusive. If the result of a DNA paternity test of father of the child is negative he is 100% excluded from the list of fathers. Inclusive test on the other hand shows the percentage of 99.9% of possibility of being the father. The accuracy is determined by the number of loci/points that are tested on DNA segments of the possible father and child. The higher the number of loci the more accurate the results are. It is recommended to choose a lab that performs at least 13-16 loci tests.
