Can Pacemakers Fight Depression?
For those who are suffering from depression, there may be some sort of hope. Recent research results have shown that pacemakers can fight depression. While it is still being researched, plenty of research has been done on this particular study dating back as far as the late 1990s. There are many different forms and methods of treating depression such as prescribed pill medication, psychotherapy and electro-shock therapy. However, doctors and researchers have found that by implanting a pacemaker just under the collarbone and having electrodes connect back to the brain, doctors can send electric impulses to the brain to help treat depression. The result is that the patient feels better (mood-wise). This procedure has also been used to treat other diseases such as Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) as well as Parkinson’s Disease and dystonia.
