Which Program

There are so many programs out there to choose from on how to lose weight fast, but which program would work out for my body type? My neighbor is diabetic and has recently been dieting and it is working for her. Would the diet she is on work for me or is it strictly for diabetics? What about a high glycemic index diet? Would that work for my body? I am constantly working out but I must be taking in more calories than I am exerting because I am adding pounds every year. I need to know which program would work best for my body.
