Choosing the right hunting dog depends directly on what type of game you will be hunting. If you are going to be hunting birds, you will need a really good bird dog to go hunting with you. A bird dog, also known as a gun dog, is not frightened by the sound of a gun; in fact they are trained to tune it out completely. A good choice for a bird dog could be any dog of the spaniel, pointer, or retriever family. If you choose a spaniel you will get a great dog ready to chase up your prey. They love to startle up birds into the air making it easy for you to shoot. The spaniel also loves water and can bring your birds back from the water for you. If it is the retriever that you desire, you will have a dog that is dependable and intelligent as well as great at retrieving your game. They have a great memory and are able to learn very quickly. Finally if you choose the pointer, you will have the stealthiest of hunting dogs. The pointer is very good at sneaking up on its prey and taking a stance to show you where the prey is hiding so that you can come and shoot it. These dogs are also very athletic and can run quickly and chase up birds from out of their hiding places. Either of these breeds will prove to be a great choice for your next bird hunt!
