Engineering curriculum: structural analysis is a required subject
Perhaps you have wondered why structural analysis is a required part of many engineering programs — particularly for those enrolled in structural and civil engineering programs. The reason is very simple — as a structural or civil engineer, you will be required to not only design public structures such as highways, bridges, and tunnels — but you also need to be able to analyze the structural capabilities and limits of the structure, using mathematical techniques. An engineer who is lacking this training may build a structure that will turn out to be unsound and unsafe — and as a result many people may be injured.
