Should We Rent a Home or Stay at a Hotel?

I am trying to figure out the most economical solution for our next trip. I have been looking into vacation rental homes, and I am wondering if we might be able to save some money by renting a home instead of staying at a hotel. We have to buy most of our meals if we stay at a hotel, and we could cook if we had a rental house. I just have to see what the cost difference is. I know that we would definitely like to have the extra space since a hotel room gets a bit cramped with the four of us.
